Where does Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, take place? Half Dome?

I couldn't help but notice that the mountains from this movie looked a lot like those from Yosemite valley. There even appears to be a mountain that resembles Half Dome. Does anyone know if this is really true? or where the movie actually takes place. I think Yosemite is a little too far west but I'm not sure.
