Irvine Welsh is a fantastic writing. He deserves loads of praise for his books. Granted, his earlier ones ("Prayer for Owen Meeney!") were better than the newer ones, but still. He's a dead good writer and makes some literary masterpieces.

35 years old? I'm asking because I met a very nice guy recently, whom I went out on a date with. He is very kind, and I really like him. He's also very fun to be with. Well, I have an older coworker (42), who I always confide in, and she confides in me as well. I told her about how my weekend went, and about my date, and she told me that the man is too old for me. How can we resolve our dog's new aggression towards leaving guests?

Our adopted shepherd or akita mix (we're not sure) is about 1 year old, we've had him almost 3 months. Only recently has he begun doing this though. He warms up to guests nicely and is fine while they are visiting, but when the person goes to walk out of the house he begins pursuing them and barking very aggressively. Will the way I hold my flute with my right hand effect my playing much?

Specifically, my right hand thumb. I don't hold my flute with my right hand in a C shape. My thumb slides to the side and the flute rests on the whole pad of my thumb, not just the tip of it. I'm pretty sure I'm holding it incorrectly, but when I hold my flute the correct way my pinkie finger locks (my pinkie is crooked and has been my whole life). Because of this I find it difficult to play faster notes when in the correct position. Is this something I could overcome or should I just keep playing my own way because that's what works best for me?

My Great Dane puppy keeps dying or something...HELP!!?

Every 10 minutes or so, she starts breathing heavily and then her whole body stiffens up and she stops breathing, moving, everything...she just 'dies'. My mom has been giving her mouth to mouth and it brings her back, but she just keeps doing it. I think she is having some sort of seizure or something and we were just going to let her go through with the whole thing to see if it was, but it's really hard to just watch her stay frozen up in some sort of coma. It's terrible and we don't want to lose her. She is only about one day old and she won't hardly even take milk from her mommy. We've read up on it and found something about it, it said to give her a few drops of corn syrup and some pedialyte. We've done that and it seems to be helping some, but she just recently did it again. Is she going to make it? Is there anything else that I can do to help her? It's the craziest thing that I've ever seen!!! Our veterinarian won't answer his phone, and the other place that we called said that they've never heard of such a thing. Has anyone else experienced this with any of their puppies?

I had bloods done yesterday, and the lab called today to say I have a dangerously low white cell count - 0.3. I have got to go to the day unit on Monday for more tests, and he said that I need to monitor my temperature all weekend, and if it goes above 38oC I have to go straight to the hospital for IV antiobiotics. I am really scared now. Is this that serious? What could it be. Any help or reurance would be great. Thanks.

I've been going to a therapist since I was 13, and have been diagnosed as clinacally depressed and it's getting much worse. Nothing has helped, and this is my 2nd therapist as the first one I had couldn't help me either. I'm 18, but still go to a pedatric doctor under my parents insurance. I have to go next wednesday to get a physical, and was going to ask my doctor about anti-depressants. I am going to tell him about my therapist diagnosing me with clinical depression, and tell him my situation and ask to be put on anti depressants because nothing else has helped my situation, and I've been in this state of depression for over five years and its ruining my life, schooling, and job. Can the pediatric doctor perscribe these medications? What should I be sure to tell him? I have to go to the peditrician untill I'm 19 because I can't afford or go to a family practicioner or a psychiatrist. The only reason I can afford the pediatric doctor is its under my parents insurance and the co-pay is only $15.00. I have no insurance of my own right now.

I think I'm going to be homeless, is my "plan" unrealistic?

I hate the idea of a 19 year old girl staying in the mall at night alone. Not only do you not know who might be lurking about, but I'm sure there are security cameras all over the place and you might jeopardize your job when they find out. Surely there are people in your town who rent rooms. Renting a room is not the best option, but it sure beats the mall, and you'd have a place to bathe and probably kitchen privileges, at least. You probably would not have to put down any sort of security deposit, either. Any town big enough to have a mall would surely have public transportation, and if not, you could maybe carpool with someone or advertise that you need a ride to the mall at certain times. I know you're 19 and adventurous, and I do appreciate your independence, but the mall plan is a no-go.

I don't know what people are talking about down there with anti-oxidants being harmful to cancer patients - they're not!!! Rash and testing your bile?

Im 40 weeks pregnant and have this itchy rash on my belly and thighs. It's like red spots. It's itchy most of the time but sometimes it's not, the heat makes it worse. Sometimes its more down my legs but it goes away, whereas my belly and thighs stays there even if it doesnt itch. Doctor wants me to do a blood test tomorrow just to make sure its nothing bad, and they want to test my liver and something about testing my bile. Just wondering how do they test bile? Prescribed Metformin but never tested for PCOS...is this routine?

That pretty much says it all. I have been trying to get pregnant for 8 months now and nada. I have very irregular periods (2 months apart, mostly heavy bleeding lasting for 2 weeks). My doctor (Kaiser) didn't do any testing for PCOS before they prescribed me Metformin. Is this normal? Why do people have to generalize others by their race?

A person is an individual. So why do some generalize black people as having tons of kids and being illiterate and on welfare. Why are white judged as having and living in trailers. First, it has to be examined by a doctor and he will determine what is wrong. Hopefully, you are taking some pain medication (ibuprofen or tylenol) on a regular basis for the pain. After he has determined what he thinks is wrong by his exam, he may order an x-ray. Then, after putting the pieces of information together, he will decide what is the best way to treat this (if a sprain - pain med; if tendonitis, maybe anti-inflammatories; if torn tendon - maybe surgery; maybe any of these with crutches). It all depends on what he finds. There is no way to tell on this forum.

You have the start of a really good poem. You need some rhyming, some rhythm. The last six lines were just great, but should have been seven lines...but really really outstanding. Instead of lifting your "head" lift your "face" and then something like "I reach out to hold you" and then "but you are no longer there. I think you could make this a special poem. If I take a seat in a train, 1/2 the time, no one will take the seat next to me no matter how packed the train is and most of those who do will be hghly uncomfortable and face away from me. If I walk into a shop, I'll get startled looks and the salespeople will look at each other (i can just hear them thinking "you serve him!") before one approaches hesitantly to ist me. When I actually make conversation with anyone, one of the first questions they ask me (doesn't matter if it's a salesperson, fellow commuter or a taxi driver) is "when are you going back to your country?" I had to perform an internship stint at a certain company and interns from Holland, Japan...were welcomed way more warmly and fit in better than I ever could. I deal with this every day and it hurts. How much jail time for child abuse with serious injury?

My ex girlfriend was finally convicted of child abuse with serious injury. She was tried by jury. I don't know if cirstances affect the sentence but the abuse was on her 6 month old child. She is also the mother of my 2 year old son who was also abused but not enough evidence to charge her. The whole case took like 8 months because she kept trying to get off on some mental instability plea. ( she is crazy but she knew what she was doing) also i share share custody with her mom since i was a suspect when my son was abused. I have been cleared since that case. Am i legally able to file a restraining order on behalf of my son even though her mom will of course try to stop me? I have joint legal and joint physical until Jan. Then i will get full custody. But my fear is that my ex will get out when she get's sentenced in Dec. This is in the commonwealth Virginia by the way.

Why my son don't like to drink milk? If he drinks, he tends to throw out after burping.?

My son is 3mths old now. For the past one week, he refused to drink milk. However, he loves to drink water. When feed him with milk, he stop sucking but when drinking plain water, he can finish abt 60ml each time. What should I do? His feeding is abt 850ml per day but now it drops to abt 600ml per day. Also, when we burp him after feeding, he will throw out all the milk. Out of 5 feedings, he throws out 3 times. Sigh!

Tips for discreet feeding for large chested ladies?

My son is almost 3 weeks old and I have a big problem with feeding around people, I had the same problem with my daughter and as such feeding didn't last very long.... I have REALLY large areolas (and pretty big too) and unlike some women who can cover their areolas with baby's head, I cannot even almost do that. I really want to just be able to feed my baby when and where I want to and I find it hard to keep a wrap over my shoulder when feeding also. Do other people have this problem? Well this is my first saltwater tank and I have tried to do as much research as I can. I'm purchasing a 125 gallon aquarium that has 100lb of live rock, 100lb of live sand and a few damsels and shrimp in it already. It has metal halide lights, Fx5 filter. Alto Saxophone Octave Key issue?

So ive been playing the alto sax for 6 years, and i used to have this problem but it went away and sadly now it has come back. Whenever i try and play the "lower" high notes with the octave key they sound leaky and squeak. This is mostly with my mid range D, E, and F my G is still fine. Please help!

I sometimes wonder if a lot of Asian women here in the States consciously don't date Asian men. I know that not all Asian girls who date Caucasian men are this way (some just fell in love with a guy who was White), but I also see a lot of Asian girls who seem to actively hate Asian guys and do their best to stay away from them and never bother to give them a chance. Is my perception of the situation wrong? It been like this for 5 month already and sometime the steering wheel feel lose and I also have some popping noise on the front of the cars! don't worry about it, i'm going for medicine too so I know the average expectations/prerequisites needed... all As and Bs is really fine, the minimum is C in Maths and English, so the rest is merely a bonus. of course the top universities want the creme de la creme of all results, from GCSEs to A levels or anything. but literally all of the other universities accept those grades. try places like bath, exeter, newcastle, sheffield, st. andrews.. anything other than the elitist top universities :P good luck fellow medicine aspirer! haha

Not sure I got your point, but busing kids into another part of town or to a different town, so they can learn with another race seems harsh to me. Won't the kid be treated like an outsider for going to a school not in his/her neighborhood? Okay so I love animals, and I have always been trying to figure out ways to help animals in need. My current major is zoology. But i'm having mix feelings about this degree. So I live in California, If I get a degree in zoology, can i really get a job in CA in a zoology related career? And another question, I've been doing a lot of research and I have read that zoologist travel a lot. What I am afraid of is that If I get a degree in zoology I am gonna have to be traveling to be able to actually find a job. Is traveling a have to in a zoology field?
