I'm having trouble with my Sims Game!?

I got a Sim's game a few years ago, when I had a desktop computer. Recently I got a Macbook, and I'm trying to install my game but it's not working. I heard there's a version for Macintosh's but I don't want to spend money to buy it. Is there anything i can do? An icon shows but it does nothing but bring up a bunch of files involving the game. Help! It's driving me mad!
