How to make a B/Guitar Riff?

Well Im not sure how good you can be if you dont understand scales. And the easiest way to make riffs, sort of the only way, is to play a series of notes in a certain scale. I usually start going up, maybe every other note, then go back down so that it can be repeated.Work on familiarizing scales though for sure!
