Wouldnt property taxes offset the tax break you get for owning a home?

Everyone says owning is great because of the tax breaks, but you also have to pay property taxes that you dont have to pay when renting. Also am I correct in believing the tax advantage gets less the longer you own the house, because you are paying less percentage as interest instead of prinicpal, yet property taxes will go up the longer you own becuase of appreciation? Does the tax to own truly outweigh the savings?
