Cat fleas! after spot on .?

my cat has always worn flea collars...never any fleas within 1 night of losing a collar he was infested.spot on took the worst away ,combing a few lifeless ones out 4 few days, treated house, seems ok but how long after treatmant do i stop getting bit! or is it poss 2 reapply spoton within a week of the last one?
